80 (Bolton) Squadron ATC is part of the national Air Cadets, part of the Greater Manchester Wing. We provide 13 to 19 year olds a chance to develop skills in many areas, including: aviation, flying and gliding, playing in a band, target-shooting, Duke of Edinburgh Award, First Aid, residential camps and trips abroad. This is only a small list of the many activities and opportunities available, all while making new friends.
The Aims of the Air Training Corps
- to promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force
- to provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life
- to foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship
While we are still part of the Royal Air Force, our role is not to recruit for the armed forces. We do develop a strong sense of service among our cadets, and today many of our 40,000+ cadets do move on to careers that support society. Many frontline jet pilots are former cadets, but many more develop careers in the public and private sectors.
